23-year old New-Zealander Earl Bamber triumphed at the
Porsche Carrera Cup Asia in Round 11 of the Shanghai Race. Martin Ragginger,
Bamber’s closest competition, finished 2nd. The two drivers have
been battling until this last event in Shanghai when Bamber sealed the victory
of the 2013 Season.
Earl Bamber not only prefers to race to victory with
Michelin tyres but he is also an instructor at the MICHELIN Pilot Experience, a
Michelin event that lets participants get a chance to know what it feels like
to be a race car driver for a day.
Commenting on the tyres following one of his victories at
the PCCA race in Singapore, Earl Bamber said: “The Michelintyres were
brilliant giving me fantastic performance confidence which is so crucial
on a street circuit. This confidence comes from the positive feedback from the
tires and really helps me to exploit the full potential of my car.”
As the official technical partner to the Porsche Carrera
Cup Asia, the MICHELIN Competition team provided service to all the Porsche
teams throughout the season. One of the biggest challenges on the tracks that
relies on the expertise and professionalism of the Michelin Competition team is
that the air pressure in thetyreshas a big effect on the performance and safety
of the drivers.
Depending on the track temperature, the air pressure will need
to be adjusted. “As the temperature
was changing all the time and so unexpectedly during this weekend in Shanghai
we were making sure that every team we service had the right tyre pressure, and
sometimes just a few minutes only before the start of the race” said
Guillaume Jeandenand, Michelin Asia Pacific Technical Correspondent.
Michelin Asia-Pacific Motorsport Manager, Patrick Dias
congratulated all the competitors who made the 2013 season one of the best
ever.
Mr Dias said that motorsport, including Porsche Carrera
Cup Asia, was a perfect platform to
demonstrate the benefits of MICHELIN Total Performance.
"With a racing pedigree built on championship and
race wins across the globe, the MICHELIN name is synonymous with delivering quality
motorsport products that perform well, are safe and reliable, and are durable,” said Mr Dias
“These critical elements of performance are not only
specific to racing, but are also key priorities for all drivers. For this
reason, after being tested in the extreme conditions of a race track,
innovations that help our race partners are then transferred into MICHELIN
passenger car tyres.”
“Developments that increase tread life, ensure
sustainable tyre performance, improve safety and enhance energy efficiency are
built into tyres such as the MICHELIN Pilot range. Tyres in the MICHELIN Pilot
range are the tyres of choice for the manufacturers of many high performance
cars such as the Porsche 918 Spyder that recently set a record lap time of 6.57
minutes at the Nürburgring circuit,”Mr Dias added.
The philosophy of “MICHELIN Total Performance” reconciles
qualities that some believe to be conflicting by virtue of technology. It is a
principle that is at the heart of Michelin's Global R&D strategy. These
exceptional performance characteristics are translated to Michelin successes
and wins in many world class races such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, World
Endurance Championship and the World Rally Championship, and make them the tyre
of choice for the Porsche Carrera Cup.
