Last Tuesday May 9, 2017 Team Lakay media day in SM MOA vikings venue. I had a chance to talk to Eduard, regarding his 1st title defense victory last month. He told me that Ting was a very tough contender and was eyeing for his belt. And asked him what he was thinking in the last 3 rounds.
When Ting was clinching and pushing him near ringside? He told me he anticipated his technique and he needs to work smart on defense. Because Ting was taunting him in those rounds to attack. When he missed a lot of fast powerful back fist then turning kicks blows. It means only that Ting did his homework in anticipating his signature moves.
He mentioned “I am still overwhelmed by the support that the whole Team Lakay is getting from the entire nation. We are all grateful for every cheer, support and prayer. It keeps us inspired, motivated, and humble. Our goal every fight night is always the same, which is to bring honor to our country.”
Also during the event David Ferro made a Documentary Movie review of Eduard training in mountains. As he interview Direk Tikoy Aguiluz that describes the warrior unleashed in the hearts of Igorot tribes. Warriors-blood fighting spirit even during war era. That no foreign or warlord evaders even conquer the mountains of Benget. As it was securely protected by the tribes.
Banario on the other hand told me about his last week training routine. That it was not wushu but mix martial arts. Like this day he will train grappling then tomorrow gonna be wrestling then the next day striking and so on different techniques. We talked about his Brutal drill double punch KO with Jartim.
But his more of wanting a rematch with Ting. Striking/Grappling? he mentioned he is everything. But how about getting the belt in main event as specialty. He did mention striking like what he did to Jartim. See Banario's video response here to face bigger fights in his division "kahit ano, hindi ko aatrasan..." uy baka ma ano or "na ano" ka issue ka dyan. hahaha
Then Mark Sangiao coach of team Lakay powerhouse. We talked about injuries, I asked him what can you advised to fighters to avoid injuries. He just said you need to train hard to avoid injuries. “We are happy to celebrate this feat with our friends in the media and our beloved followers from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. We came from the mountains of Baguio City, but we represent the colors of the Philippines on the global stage.
Last April, we accomplished a 5-0 sweep, including Eduard's successful title defense. We came and overcame the challenges. However, the journey doesn't end there. As martial artists, we are here to grow and learn.” See Team Lakay media day photos here and Gina Iniong victory over Hills.
Also present on the media day were Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio, Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon, Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly, Joshua Pacio, Danny “The King” Kingad and April Osenio. Eustaquio is scheduled to face Thailand's Anatpong Bunrad as highly anticipated rematch in the 3 round Flyweight division set for One Dynasty of Heroes next week May 26, 2017 @ Singapore Indoor Stadium.
